Holiday Cottages in Wittersham East Sussex
The village of Wittersham is situated between Rye and Tenterden lying on the high ground of the Isle of Oxney, which at an earlier time was surrounded by water. The Danes were said to have occupied this area as long ago as 892 and the village sign today incorporates a Danish Longship. Today the village is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and boasts an attractive 13th century church and a traditional village pub, perfect for a stopover after a leisurely country stroll!
There is a thriving village market every week and the nearby Stocks Mill is worth a visit. The mill is the largest of its type in Kent and was restored with a Lottery Grant in 2004. It is now open to the public on summer Sunday afternoons.
