Holiday Cottages in Rye East Sussex

Perched on top of a hill with stunning views across the Romney marshes, the ancient town of Rye in East Sussex is the perfect place to spend the day during your holiday. Wandering along the cobbled streets and browsing around the many shops and quaint cafes you will feel suspended in time. Whereas many towns boast a colourful past but have little evidence of it, Rye has many ancient and interesting buildings that bear testimony to its eventful past, including The Ypres Tower (the castle), Landgate and Town Wall, all providing excellent photo opportunities now that their days of defence are over. The medieval church and beautifully preserved historic houses gives the whole town a wonderful unhurried atmosphere and regularly attract film crews in search of settings for period productions. Rye is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area including the Nature Reserve at Rye harbour and the local beaches. The famous dunes at Camber are only a short drive away but when you need to get the sand out from under your toes take time to visit Rye and maybe enjoy a cream tea, or fish and chips sitting on the harbour wall.

There are many annual events taking place in Rye throughout the year including the annual Rye Festival in September, the Rye Bonfire in November; the Rye Mayor Making ceremony in May, the Rye Society of Artist's Summer Exhibition, the new Rye Sea Pageant in October and Rye Bay Scallops Week in January. Plenty to keep the whole family amused at any time of year!
