Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in Alfriston

Nestled in the hills between Eastbourne and Lewes, the impossibly pretty little village of Alfriston in Sussex is often included in lists of the UK’s most beautiful villages. And no wonder – sitting prettily in the rolling hills of the South Downs, it is home to a famous church, known as the ‘Cathedral of the South Downs’ as well as the medieval thatched Alfriston Clergy House, which was the National Trust’s first acquired property back in 1896. The village is a delight to walk through, with the little village shop, antique shops and tearooms – perfect for stopping off for a cup of tea and a piece of cake after a lovely long walk – The Singing Kettle is a much-loved institution and dogs are welcome there too, so it is perfect for both dog and human walkers.

You’ll also find traditional country pubs in the nearby villages and, of course, both the charming town of Lewes and the coastal resort of Eastbourne are under 10 miles away, both full of cafés, restaurants and excellent shopping. Stroll along the Cuckmere river if you have a four-legged friend with you or up onto the Downs which stretch for over a hundred miles – you can walk amongst both country and coast in this spectacular national park and the views are simply breathtaking. Make sure that you stop for photos at the Seven Sisters near Eastbourne, one of the South Down’s most photographed places. When it's time to retire for the night, lay your head down at one of our Alfriston holiday cottages, ready for new adventures in the morning.
