This beautiful period cottage is located in the small village of Northiam in East Sussex. The village’s main attraction is the Tudor house and gardens at Great Dixter, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the property. The house was the family home of renowned gardener Christopher Lloyd and his legacy lives on through the large and well-tended gardens. The fascinating house is also open to the public and is a wonderful example of Tudor architecture. Another historic landmark can be easily reached from the village, the striking castle at Bodiam. It is even possible to take a pleasure boat cruise from Northiam straight to the castle, making this a wonderful day out from start to finish.

This beautiful cottage is reached via steps up to the front door, which opens into the charming lounge, with its beams and inglenook fireplace which now houses an electric fire. You will enjoy relaxing here, with the comfortable sofa and TV . A step leads down to the dining room with table and seating for four, and on through to the beautiful handmade oak kitchen. You are well catered for here, with the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. A door from the kitchen leads out to the garden. Steep stairs lead up to the first floor, where you will find the beautiful beamed bedroom with double bed, dressing table, built-in wardrobe and storage chest. A step down brings you to the bathroom, with a shower over the bath, which although contemporarily and stylishly decorated, still features the original beams to the ceiling.

The owner of the cottage is a medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show and this is evident from the beautifully styled cottage garden, with well-chosen plants, a handmade bench and retro BBQ by the bistro-style table. There is parking for one car at the end of the terrace.

Charming character comfortable cottage. This is our second stay at Elsie Cottage and we returned as we knew it would be clean and just the right location for exploring the East Sussex and Kent area. We would definitely recommend this property, just be mindful that the stairs are very steep!

Lovely cosy cottage with everything we needed - including books and games. Helpful information and leaflets were left for us to read up about the local area too. The area was beautiful as well as relaxing, we happily spent a rainy afternoon inside. The welcome gifts were a lovely touch and much appreciated. Would highly recommend Elsie Cottage!

Enjoyed our stay at this cosy cottage, lovely location with much to see and do and the cottage had what we needed, though could do with just a couple of extras such as a smart TV and that blackout blind in the bedroom. Great suggestions left by the owners and the treats on arrival was especially welcomed. However, be warned that the cottage is tinyRead more and old, and anyone with mobility issues might want to think twice due to some awkward steps in the property. Hide
