This romantic and characterful holiday retreat is nestled in the landscaped grounds of the owners' own farmhouse. With lovely views over the meadows towards Orlestone Forest, this is an idyllic rural retreat for a couple or solo traveller. The owners are developing wildflower meadows all around the property and were winners in the Kent Wildlife Trust Local Wildlife Sites award programme. There are many lovely walks along the quiet lanes and countryside, including at the nearby Gusbourne Estate (3.5 miles), where they produce an award-winning sparkling wine that just has to be sampled. The picturesque market town of Tenterden, with its many shops, cafes and restaurants, is 7.5 miles away, and no trip to Tenterden is complete without a ride on a steam train through the pretty Rother Valley to Bodiam Castle. In the opposite direction, discover the historic ‘Cinque Port’ town of Rye (11.5 miles), or the endless golden sands of Camber (15 miles) that promises glorious days out at the seaside.

The cottage has been thoughtfully decorated, incorporating the original beams and is furnished to a high standard throughout. The inviting studio-style living space is warm and welcoming with a plush king-size bed, comfy seating, wood burner and window-side dining table offering fabulous views of the forest. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed to meet all your culinary needs, and a stylish shower room makes this home complete.

A private patio to the rear is where you will find an outdoor dining set from which to take in the far-reaching countryside views. Guests can enjoy the added bonus of access to the owner’s garden and use of a summer house overlooking the pond, perfect for relaxing surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Lovely little cottage in quiet rural location. Log burner, views, very friendly welcome and hosts. Quiet walks around the lanes. Recommend the Ferry Inn nearby. We stayed at Christmas and would love to see the area in summer. 10 minutes from Ashford but in the middle of nowhere. Thank you for making our Christmas great!

The Lodge is a charming, comfortable property. In such beautiful, peaceful surroundings, but not far from many places to visit. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Their knowledge of the area outstanding. A real home from home, would definitely like to visit again.

A lovely spot but you must have a car. High quality fixtures and fittings, which I was terrified of damaging or staining. Internet was slow to intermittent. TV reception was poor. Hosts were delightful.

We've had a fabulous week in The Lodge and at the patio table as the weather's been glorious! Done lot's of walking - coast and countryside. Loved Rye, Winchester, Battle and the bird watching at Rye Harbour where we also saw a seal. Been to some lovely pub gardens for a drink. It's gone too quickly - don't want to leave.

We can recommend beautiful walks and bird lovers, we really enjoyed two walks along the RMC. The first day we walked to Appledore along the right hand side of the canal and saw several swans, a kingfisher, reed warblers, white throats, chiffchaffs, and heard two nightingales and several cuckoos. We also heard a great number of marsh frogs. WednesdaRead morey we walked down the left hand side of the canal and heard and saw two turtle doves, heard a nightingale, saw longtail tits, a pied flycatcher, and heard hundreds of marsh frogs. We have enjoyed seeing the woodpeckers on the feeders and the beautiful bluebells in the forest. Thank you! Hide

Perfect retreat for one woman and her dog! Lovely walks in the bluebell woods and along the RMC. Great lunch at the Woolpack. Only disappointment was not hearing the nightingales- so will have to return next year!
