Property code: OC-TW667

The weatherboard cottage frontage of this semi-detached property utterly belies what appears behind. To the rear, there’s little evidence of the cute cottage and more semblance of a super modern design house – with not one but two terraced areas to take advantage of its lake views. Located right on the edge of Bewl Water, this three-bed retreat makes a great base for outward-bound pursuits. Bewl Water reservoir itself can be accessed direct from the garden, with walking and cycling trails around it winding through woodland and meadows. Don’t forget your binoculars for spotting wild fowl. Just 2.5 miles away is Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest which offers miles of trails through ancient pines for all the family – while you’re there, try Go Ape’s tree-top adventures. National Trust properties abound in this part of the world: opt for Vita Sackville-West’s famous gardens at Sissinghurst (10 miles), 14th-century moated Bodiam Castle (8.5 miles); and castle ruins, and a Victorian mansion in parkland at Scotney Castle (3.5 miles). Pashley Manor Gardens (3 miles) offers 11 acres of borders and vistas.

The beautiful living room has lovely light wood flooring, neutral decor, comfortable seating and a cosy wood burner all lending it a really relaxing air. From here, double doors lead into the open-plan kitchen/diner which really has the wow factor with impressive slate flooring throughout, a contemporary fitted kitchen with a useful island and two stools so you can chat to the chef over a drink. The other side of the kitchen houses a Rayburn range inserted into a bare brick wall, all under a roof window to let the light flood in. There’s also a modern table for six and another sofa next to the fabulous bi-fold doors taking up most of the back wall and leading out onto the raised decked terrace. It’s a show-stopping space where you can let the outdoors in when the weather’s fine but still enjoy the outside view when the doors are shut. The sleeping quarters comprise a king-size bedroom with its own nicely tiled en-suite bathroom, with a free-standing clawfoot bath plus doors out to another terrace with stylish furniture. There’s a twin room too, plus a single with extra trundle bed suitable for a child. All of the bedrooms have attractive French oak flooring and calming decor and furnishings to ensure a great night’s sleep. These rooms share a wonderful, contemporary shower room.

This house offers a great garden with a lawned area that provides direct access to Bewl Water and is surrounded by some mature trees. Meanwhile, the house offers two furnished and decked terraces overlooking the garden and lake. One leads out from the kitchen/diner and the other from the master bedroom. Besides this, Bewl Water’s trails and tracks await.

The location of this property is amazing right on the edge of Bewl Water, good walks around the lake and plenty of activity to watch from the balcony of the cottage. The cottage was lovely and very clean, we settled in straight away. I would recommend a food delivery as there are no shops in the immediate vicinity. One of the best holiday lets weRead more have had over the years, absolutely no negatives at all. Hide

Wonderful location, well appointed comfortable cottage, great base for visiting local attractions. Welcome pack with delicious cake a very nice touch. Spoilt for choice with upstairs and ground floor balconies to enjoy the view and wildlife at Bewl Water. We particularly enjoyed watching a grey heron fishing for its supper in the shallow water by tRead morehe shore. One point to note, the cottage is located on a badly pot holed single track lane, not the responsibility of the home owners but maybe better not to take a lower suspensioned car. Also, visibility when leaving the driveway not ideal but mirrors to view oncoming traffic would really help. Overall a wonderful property in a beautiful location. Hide

Could not fault the accommodation in any way. Not the easiest place to find down a very rutted and partially flooded side road.

Fantastic holiday cottage with breathtaking views over Bewl Water. Spacious, comfortable accommodation well located for visiting the local sites. Granddaughter loved all the toys and books. We would definitely book again when we are next visiting the area and would not hesitate to recommend the property to friends and relatives.

We had such a relaxing autumn break at this lovely cottage. The views and access to walks around the reservoir from the cottage make it really special. The cottage itself is really well equipped and very comfortable. Lovely, comfortable cottage in a perfect location and easy conversations with key holder. My only criticism- too many emails from Original Cottages and the tone of some of the messages was a little sharp, a little demanding rather than requesting.
