Property code: OC-CB652

This modern, one-bed, cottage-style property is as cute as a button – inside and out. It’s set within the owners’ property grounds, but still retains a strong feeling of privacy. It’s in a tranquil area with access to Angley Woods and less than 1 mile from the Cranbrook Centre, making it an ideal bolthole for any couple keen to explore this part of Kent. Stock up on supplies and have a mooch around Cranbrook, not forgetting Cranbrook Museum and Union Windmill (both open seasonally). Got green fingers? Vita Sackville-West’s famous formal gardens at Sissinghurst created in the 1930s, now National Trust site, are a mere 3 miles away, or Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest are 8.5 miles the other way. National Trust properties abound, take your pick from castle ruins and a Victorian mansion in parkland at Scotney Castle (10 miles), 16th-century house and gardens at Smallhythe Place in Tenterden (11 miles), 14th-century moated Bodiam Castle (8.5 miles), or Jacobean former home of Rudyard Kipling Bateman’s (13 miles). Or just get out in nature and explore some of the walking trails on offer before toasting your romantic retreat with wine from a local vineyard.

Guests are ushered in via a beautiful wooden doorway with wood-raised beds either side. Stepping straight into the open-plan living area, you won’t know where to go or what to do first in this delightful space. A cosy wood burner sits in one corner with comfortable soft furnishings around. Open the French doors and look over the charming terrace. The chic fitted kitchen can cope with any self-catering demand and there’s even a modern table for two here. This house has been styled to a high standard with quality fixtures, furnishings and furniture. Stairs from a corner of the lounge lead up to the stylish double bedroom with an en-suite contemporary shower room which has a door-size window with louvred blinds. This property has tiled flooring throughout downstairs (carpet in the bedroom) and has the cosy advantage of underfloor heating.

This cottage is set within the gardens of the owners but does offer its own private paved terrace outside the French doors, complete with garden furniture plus a small lawned area. But, with access to Angley Woods from the garden and some of Kent’s finest countryside nearby, there’s no shortage of opportunity to get out into the landscape.
