About 100m from the medieval Westgate of Canterbury, marking one end of the bustling high street, this Georgian terrace cottage makes a welcoming base for a family or friends exploring the city’s historic buildings, museums, galleries and theatre. Westgate Gardens, with scenic paths beside the River Stour, is a very short walk from the property, as is the beautiful Canterbury Cathedral. A river boat tour is a wonderful way to take in the medieval city, with evening tours particularly enchanting. Back on dry land, Canterbury is surrounded by lush, rolling countryside and pretty villages, and is just over 6.5 miles from the classic British seaside resort of Whitstable, with its shingle beach, beach huts and seafood restaurants.

This delightful heritage property has accommodation on two floors and has been sensitively restored to present period charm alongside modern comforts. The lounge is a cosy, inviting room, with sofas gathered around a feature fireplace. There’s a smart dining room with another feature fireplace and a dining table and chairs, and, adjacent, a galley-style kitchen with wooden worktops and a Belfast sink. A bathroom with a bath and an overhead shower completes the accommodation on this floor. Up on the first floor via a cottage-style staircase are two handsome bedrooms – one double and one twin – both offering ample storage.

Outdoors, an enclosed rear courtyard with dining furniture provides a peaceful setting for relaxing with an al fresco coffee or a meal in good weather.

This year was our second stay at 64 Westgate Cottage. Last year was our first holiday in 16 years, we had no idea what to expect. Our experience second time round was as good as the first, if not better, as we knew what we were going to. The photos on the website are accurate. What you see is what you get! The living room is very cosy and comforRead moretable, the furniture, the same on both visits is clean and in good condition, great for taking an afternoon nap. The dining room is the same, neat and clean although getting your legs under the table can be a little tricky. Watch your wine! :) The kitchen is clean and fully equipped; we cooked most of our dinners there with ease. The bathroom is spotless, spacious and with a fantastic shower. The bedrooms are a good size, plenty of storage space, with comfortable beds and clean, fresh, spotless linen. As other reviews have said there is quite a lot of traffic noise. This is true and it does vary according to the time of day. Having said this the cottage is on a main road, in a city and the building is old, so what do you expect? The upside is you can hear the Cathedral bells. The cottage is perfectly situated as everything is within walking distance and comes with its own private parking space, always premium in Canterbury. Overall, the cottage is cosy, comfortable, full of character and charm. We can't wait to go back for a third time! Hide

Bed linen was dirty, house was not properly cleaned, esp. bathroom and kitchen, i.e. fridge. It is not a good start into your holiday when you have to clean the cottage first. The sofas were dirty and broken down. As a consequence we did not use the living room. The fotos are very nice but old and do not render the current condition of the house. ARead moredjacent to the cottage is a very noisy A290 Road. So we left the cottage two days before end of the contract. In the past we were we always were very satisfied with your cottages ( contracts made by Gndje or Ulrich Geisler). We feel deceived. Response from holidaycottages.co.uk - Thank you for your review which has been discussed with the owner. The property had been cleaned and checked prior to your arrival and linens laundered. We understand you were happy with the brand new linens offered instead. Hide

Terrific location in city centre. 2 parking spaces a bonus. Bottle of wine and milk as welcome gift was really nice. Westgate Gardens and French Patisserie within 2 minutes walk. Westgate Tower museum and viewpoint is a must. Also within 2 minutes of property. Lots to do in the city and local area. Plenty of choice for eating out.

The cottage is in a great location and with the bonus of parking too! Though it can be a tight fit for a larger car. The road noise at the front is quite loud but you get used to it Canterbury and surrounding areas have so much to see and do. Recommend joining English Haritage!

Great location. Very good to have parking in the centre of the city. House was well presented and owner had considered everything for the perfect stay. Some traffic noise from road at front of property but not surprising given the central location. All in all a great property.

Great location 2mins from town centre. Very well equipped property with everything you need in the kitchen. Lots of character in the cottage. Comfortable beds. Bedrooms upstairs and bathroom downstairs. Stairs are quite narrow and steep, if you have mobility issues.
