Property code: OC-CB664

This unique property has undergone a magnificent conversion from a 17th-century Anglican chapel-of-ease to a luxury holiday home sleeping up to six guests. It’s located in the pretty village of Horsmonden in the Weald of Kent, which has a pub and a well-stocked village shop, and there are many vineyards and farm shops in the area. Bedgebury Pinetum and Forest (7 miles) is perfect for walks and cycle rides and Bewl Water (6 miles) is a reservoir with cycling, water sports, an open-air cinema and a restaurant. The National Trust property Scotney Castle (5 miles) has pretty castle ruins, and the famous gardens at Sissinghurst Castle are 7 miles away.

The magnificent painted chancel roof of the church has been retained along with polychrome brickwork and original arched stained-glass windows. The entrance hall has space to hang coats and store boots, and the open-plan living area includes a double-height vaulted ceiling and wooden floors with underfloor heating throughout. A high archway leads to a dining area with stone flooring and a table seating eight people, and behind it is the kitchen. Glass doors lead to a comfy TV room, and another subterranean snug also has a TV. The bespoke staircase with glass panelling transports you to the first two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other a twin room, plus a shower room. More stairs lead to the master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a king-size bed and additional stairs to an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower and a free-standing double-ended bath with countryside views.

The enclosed garden has a furnished patio area where you can dine alfresco on sunny days.

Well presented, spotlessly clean. Only missing item was a welcome pack. We'd have welcomed a pint of milk in the fridge.

Absolutely stunning property , loved that some of the original features were kept ( Font, organ & Ceiling inscriptions). Great base for exploring the beautiful Kent countryside. Beds were comfortable with good linen, whilst my friend slept soundly , I am a light sleeper and I did find the road noise outside a little annoying at first but soon got Read moreused to the slow but steady flow of traffic. I would still recommend this as a lovely and different place to stay. Hide

The property has great character, is well equipped and comfortable but it may be unsuitable for people with reduced mobility as the stairs lack a proper handrail and access to the en-suite bathroom is a bit awkward.

This is a wonderful building to stay in, completely unique and sympathetically renovated with a good mix of old and contemporary styles which worked really, really well. . It is very well equipped and to a high standard, with everything you needed for cooking during your stay. The beds were very comfortable and the building was pleasantly warm to Read moresuit the time of year. The area has lots to offer with beaches, small towns and National Trust properties within easy reach by car. I would happily stay there again, as would all of my family. Hide

A fantastic place-the photos simply don't do it justice. I'm not sure how this place can be topped. Beautiful area all around too. The village shop was well stocked and very handy although there are plenty of places to eat all around the area. We will definitely be back.

An incredible place to stay in for the week and so beautifully adapted by the owner. Even though the weather was kind to us for the week in February we didn't really want to go out for long as we were happy relaxing in the Church.

Fantastic property and the quality of bedding/towels and furnishings are outstanding. A truly unique property that is well worth booking. Lovely location and brilliant space for parking. Although next to a road this is not an issue with very low volume of traffic.

Unbelievable location. Magical, atmospheric, grand and yet welcoming. If you like any music then listening to it whilst relaxing in the nave of a chapel is wonderful. The layout of the holiday home gave us fantastic family dinners in an unforgettable unique space but having the snugs gave us cosy family film viewing too. Everything worked...the Read moretwo ovens even made cooking a pleasure and the ensuite bathroom was pure luxury. So much to do in the area (walks, pinetum, vineyard, Go Ape, Sissinghurst, Leeds Castle and the best cat cafe in Tonbridge to name a few) and yet we felt remote enough to relax completely. Could not fault the place. Would recommend without hesitation. Hide

The property is stunning and has been beautifully renovated. The pictures do not do justice to the interior with the stained glass windows and original features. It is furnished to a very high standard and is extremely comfortable. The property is adjacent to a very busy small road so it is quite noisy with passing traffic especially in the gardenRead more. A central location for visiting National Trust properties and Hever and Leeds castles which were interesting. We also went to Canterbury for the day and also visited Whitstable which is nearby. Hide
