  • Traditional features and decor include the cosy sitting room with ceiling beams
  • Perfect for a romantic or family getaway with a double and a single bedroom

Property code: OC-RH1054

This historic terrace cottage dating back to 1795 has pretty, classic features. Located in the heart of Rye, it's just off Mermaid Street, renowned for its picturesque architecture, including medieval timber-framed houses and Georgian residences. Sample the surrounding historic pubs, independent cafes and quirky shops from bookshops to antiques. Meander the maze of cobbled streets and climb the church tower for a high-up view of the Rye rooftops and surrounding Sussex countryside. Days in nature are yours to enjoy at Camber Sands beach (3 miles) with sand dunes and watersports; or Rye Harbour Nature Reserve (4 miles), a haven for bird and plant life.

Admire the charm of this historic, flower-strewn terrace house as you approach on the cobbled street. The inside is just as atmospheric and traditional: the sitting room boasts ceiling beams, a sofa and tub chair. You won't be short of modern amenities, however, as there’s a TV/DVD, CD/radio and an iPod dock for personalised entertainment. Quirky wall art and the bright, oversized rug add extra flair, while there’s a gate leg table with chairs if you want to dine in. The rustic kitchen has light wood units and wall panelling. Steep cottage stairs lead to the first floor, where there’s a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a bathroom with soothing colours, boasting a shower over the bath.

Although this cottage has no private outdoor space, there is so much to explore on your doorstep within Rye that it isn't necessary. Plus, the kitchen door leads to a path which is an ideal place to lock up your bikes.

Harbour Cottage was immaculately presented and delightfully and comfortably furnished. Its position on a steeply ascending footpath offers wonderful views of the town, river and surrounding countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will almost certainly return.

This is my 2nd visit to Harbour cottage because I loved it so much the 1st time! Its a beautiful cottage set in the centre of Rye and it had everything I needed for a very warm and comfortable stay. The bed is to die for! I will definitely stay here again.

We had the most wonderful time in Rye. The cottage is utterly charming, warm and comfortable and somehow fitted with all amenities despite the limited space and in a perfect location as well. We will certainly come back!

It was the perfect retreat, delightfully presented with many thoughtful touches and decorations. This adorable cottage had everything I wanted to make my stay very warm and comfortable. It has the most beautiful view over Winchelsea beach towards Fairlight in the distance and its even more stunning at night with moonlight! The locale of Rye is very beautiful especially now all the Christmas lights are up in the high street and in the windows oRead moref houses! I also wanted to explore Romney marshes, Rye harbour, Brighton, Hastings, Battle and all of that was very accessible from very close to Harbour cottage. Right now Im planning my next stay at Harbour cottage! Hide

We have continued to stay at Harbour Cottage again as it offers comfortable accommodation and easy access to the town of Rye. There are great views across the Strand and over the marshes.

The property was exactly what we were expecting. The only downsides were nowhere to freeze ice blocks and having to park 10 minutes walk away (which we were aware of). Middling scores for Original Cottages are simply because there are many similar booking companies and location is more important than who we book with!

We can highly recommend Harbour Cottage - a beautifully appointed, cosy place, tucked away in a quiet and very pretty pedestrianised location but also conveniently sited in the centre of town. We'll definitely be back again before long! Thank you so much for a truly magical stay.

A delightful 18th century cottage with all mod cons tucked away down a footpath passage off the bottom of historic Mermaid Street. Absolutely quiet hideaway yet a few minutes from the High Street. Small but beautifully presented inside and could not be faulted. The owner was very helpful with welcome notes and when contacted re the key. EveryRead morething went so smoothly.
