  • Early 19c fishermen’s cottage with tiny enclosed courtyard
  • Located just seconds from the seafront and beach
  • Central location in Eastbourne, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre shops
Property code: OC-EHC20

This property is situated at the heart of the traditional seaside resort of Eastbourne, just across the road from the town’s wide shingle beach. The town’s restored Victorian pier is just a three-minute walk away with its nightclub, tea rooms, and fish and chip restaurant. Other attractions in the town include an interesting lifeboat museum, a seafront fort built during the Napoleonic Wars, and a fantastic outdoor sports centre, which offers tuition in stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and even raft making. There is also a good range of both high-street and independent shops in the town, as well as a wide choice of pubs, restaurants, and cafes.

The front door of this attractive cottage opens directly into the cosy lounge. This room has a lovely traditional feel, thanks to the whitewashed cobblestone walls and low ceilings, and offers a comfortable sofa, armchair, and TV/DVD. Just off the lounge is a contemporary-style kitchen/diner which is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine, and has a folding dining table at one end. There is a downstairs cloakroom. Steep, narrow, cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor where the first of the property’s two bedrooms is situated: a double room which has a wrought iron bedstead and has been charmingly styled to create a tranquil retreat. The bathroom is also located on this floor and offers a sumptuous roll-top bath, separate shower, and WC. A second set of steep turned stairs lead to a single room which is situated in the eaves of the house, and therefore has a low ceiling and some reduced head-height.

There is private parking space within a gated carpark 0.1 miles away.

We found the cottage to be clean and well equipped and the location is convenient for the beach and town centre. The manager of the property made sure everything was ready for our arrival. We appreciated the milk and biscuits and the fact that the heating was on. The facilities in the kitchen and spacious bathroom were excellent. However we werRead moree disappointed with the sitting room as it was dark and cold and not the same as the picture on the website. There is a small fold down table in the kitchen but this isn't really suitable. Also whilst the beds were comfortable both bedrooms need proper fitting black out curtains or blinds to stop light coming in from the outside alleyway. As previous guests have mentioned there is rubbish by the bins in the alley outside but this didn't spoil our stay and we recognise this is outside of the owners control. Overall the cottage provides a convenient bolthole for a stay in Eastbourne in the summer months but not sure about the 4 star rating. Hide

The cottage itself is lovely and in an excellent location especially with the addition of private parking, however the inaccessible courtyard meant it was not suitable with a dog.

A fantastic cottage in an excellent location . Well equipped kitchen, fantastic bathroom .my step daughter loved her room in the roof. Parking is a bonus. People passing in the alley was not a problem , but the bins were used late into the evening and emptied early morning ( 3am ) one day, obviously beyond the owners control. Plenty of places to eaRead moret and things to do. Hide

Lovely cottage at a perfect location. Very clean, with comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and good shower and bath. Very much enjoyed our week here and would come again.

The cottage was spoiled by its location overflowing rubbish bins in the streets approaching the property and a dirty, unusable space to the rear where the bins were stored. Definitely not somewhere that I would consider sitting out in.

We had a pleasant stay at The Sail Loft despite the gulls raiding the bins opposite the house. It was well situated for visiting Bible by the Beach, only 15 minutes walk from the Congress Theatre and close to the promenade, where we enjoyed some pleasant morning walks. It was really helpful that it included a free parking space. The house was beautRead moreifully decorated and well stocked. It was a shame the outdoor area wasn't usable, but there were plenty of benches near the beach to sit on. Hide

Sail Loft is a cute and cosy cottage well situated near the seafront and shops and cafes - it is very clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and the major bonus of secure parking just a few yards away. The main downside is the alley where it is located - people do pass right outside the sitting room window but it wasn't particularly noiRead moresy and this could be helped by installing a venetian blind but the big issue is the bins and the rubbish which was strewn everywhere Hide
