Located in the East Sussex village of Northiam, the local area boasts popular pubs, antique shops, butchers and farm shops. It is also famously home to Great Dixter, Christopher Lloyd’s celebrated hall house and garden, which is well-worth a visit. Situated in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, keen walkers will enjoy exploring the many footpaths, stopping at quaint villages for afternoon tea or a pub lunch along the way.

The front door opens into the charming lounge area, which features exposed beams, a large inglenook fireplace with comfortable sofa and an exposed brick wall. The kitchen beyond is compact but opens out to the garden and has everything you’ll need including an electric double oven with a grill, hob and overhead hood, microwave, fridge, freezer, and washing machine. Once you have finished preparing your meals, dine at the round oak gate-leg table that sits in the pretty dining area by the kitchen. Go up the steep turned stairs to the bedroom, which is extremely cosy and inviting, with exposed beams above and original pine floorboard below, and a cupboard with hanging space. Also on this floor is the stylish bathroom with bath with overhead shower next to the pretty cottage window, basin, mirror and WC also features original floorboards.

Outside, the cottage is approached via a pretty front garden, while the stunning pebbled garden at the rear of the house has been beautifully planted and features a handmade bench and cafe style table and chairs for al fresco dining.

Had a very pleasant three night stay here between Christmas and New Year. Cottage is quite small and has fairly steep stairs leading to the bedroom and adjacent bathroom but is very cosy and well appointed. Wifi, tv, heating all good. We had 3 nights at this lovely cosy cottage, with our dog. The house is old, but very clean and comfortable, and extremely charming! The village is convenient for driving into Rye, and the cottage is walking distance to the chippy and corner shop. There are also lovely (muddy!) walks right from the doorstep - we walked about an hour to the White DoRead moreg pub for lunch, which we would highly recommend. The garden is secure, so perfect for the dog. There is a a well-equipped kitchen for self-catering. Hide

We enjoyed our stay at Elsie Cottage, quirky property lovely character. Very well equipped, sofa, chairs and bed comfortable. Very mindful when climbing up or down the stairs (no good for sleep walkers!). Lovely sitting in the pretty garden to relax. Lots of books provided. Good location - perfect walk to Dixter House and Gardens. Would return.

Great location five mins walk to Great Dixter garden. Nice little back garden. Lots to see and visit in the area especially National Trust properties/gardens. Well equipped kitchen though small. Very steep staircase, minuscule landing. Slightly run down/unkempt feel.

We really enjoyed our stay in Elsie cottage it is very cute. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a physical disability as the stairs are very steep and pebbles in small court yard garden would be difficult to walk on.

Lovely old cottage in a quiet rural area. Fully equipped and very comfortable for two adults and a small dog. Additional treats left for us and dog which were greatly appreciated. It is a character cottage not a Premier Inn lookalike and that is its charm.

Charming character comfortable cottage. This is our second stay at Elsie Cottage and we returned as we knew it would be clean and just the right location for exploring the East Sussex and Kent area. We would definitely recommend this property, just be mindful that the stairs are very steep!

Lovely cosy cottage with everything we needed - including books and games. Helpful information and leaflets were left for us to read up about the local area too. The area was beautiful as well as relaxing, we happily spent a rainy afternoon inside. The welcome gifts were a lovely touch and much appreciated. Would highly recommend Elsie Cottage!
