Stay in Sandwich 5 metres from the riverside, in a cottage that’s steeped in thousands of years of history; catering to adults, the property offers the optional use of a second bedroom for a fee. This area is a golfer's paradise; there are eight courses within a 10-mile radius including the famous Royal St. Georges, and you’re close to the coast (just over 2 miles on foot), for refreshing walks on the beach and sailing adventures. Immerse in culture, and a spot of retail therapy in Canterbury 10 miles away and try some water sports at Whitemills Wake and Aqua Park (1 mile). Or stay close to home — within half a mile you have a museum, a medieval centre and many tempting eateries.

The entrance hall has a padded bench and two steps up to the exquisite lounge. Here, you’ll find colourful eastern rugs, a hanging tapestry, paintings, antique pieces of furniture, a coal-effect electric fire and ancient beams. A contemporary kitchen has a round bistro table and two chairs for leisurely dining. Upstairs, the landing leads to a carpeted super-king-size bedroom; an elegant space with an antique monks bench at the foot of the bed, a dressing table with a mirror over with a padded stool, and antique Italianate embossed plaster borders on the walls. Found off the bedroom, the en-suite shower room has a glistening porcelain tiled floor.

Relax after a day’s sightseeing, within the privacy of your own walled garden with a table and chairs, a pond with a water feature, planted raised borders and a fig tree. At the far end, you’ll find your own stone and flint-built Custom House.

We really enjoyed our stay in this delightful old and interesting property set close to the river and with a nature reserve as it's neighbour. The Short House and it's location are lovely. Tastefully presented and so in-keeping for this unique slice of English history. The location within Sandwich is excellent, every available facility within easy walking distance. Sandwich Bay Beach, a huge pebble beach, is well maintained and run, with 10 parking for up to 9pm, come and go as you like. Plus an added little bonus, just 3 minutes walk from the rear of the Short House is the beautifully maintained Sandwich Cricket Field & Club a lovely peaceful area to go and enjoy especially on Saturday afternoon when the team may be playing. Our fortnight's holiday just was gone far too quickly, many thanks to Bill & Gill the most caring and thoughtful owners. Hide
