This beautifully refurbished cottage is brimming with charm, traditional character and country style, making it the perfect hideaway for couples looking to explore the Kent and East Sussex countryside.

This beautiful character cottage is located in the idyllic village of Hawkhurst on the Kent/Sussex border. Although nestled in the countryside, Hawkhurst has much more to offer than most villages with its colonnade of independent shops and even a boutique state-of-the-art cinema with its own chic cafe-bar. Further afield, the upmarket town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is within a 30 minute drive and has many shops and a large choice of restaurants. Also within easy reach are several places of historic interest, including Batemans, the home of writer Rudyard Kipling and the magnificent Bodiam castle.

The front door of this 'chocolate box' cottage opens straight on to the lounge/diner. This light and airy space is perfect for relaxing in, with comfortable sofa and chair and a TV, DVD player and woodburner effect gas fire, lending a cosy atmosphere in the winter months, which is enhanced by low-level lighting. There is also a selection of books and games for guests to enjoy. There is also a dining table and chairs here, perfect for a home-cooked meal or perhaps a takeaway. An archway leads to the well-equipped kitchen which has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. A stable door leads to a small courtyard. Steep, cottage style stairs lead from the kitchen to the light, airy, elegantly decorated first floor bedroom with super king-size bed. This is a zip-and-link bed which can also be made up as a twin on request. The en-suite bathroom has a shower over the bath and is again, a pleasant, bright space. Guests should be aware that due to the age of the property, the stairs are steep and narrow and therefore not suitable for guests with mobility issues.

Outside there is a pretty paved courtyard with flowers and a small herb garden. In the summer this is the perfect suntrap! There is a BBQ and bistro-style table and chairs. A small shed is available for storing your outdoor equipment.

The cottage was lovely and cosy just as described in a quiet part of the village. Within easy walking of local pubs and supermarkets. It was an excellent base for exploring

The cottage is small but has everything you need - just be prepared for a steep staircase leading up to the bedroom. It is in a very good location for touring round that area. There are so many places to visit. Also it is well placed in the town to be able to walk to pubs and restaurants.

Very small, but really comfortably furnished, with a luxury bed. The owners have thought of everything, even a radio and thick fluffy white towels. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

A wonderful little cottage, so beautifully fitted out with everything you could wish for. Upon our arrival there was fresh milk, a cake and a bottle of wine in the fridge - so very welcoming! For the second time in three months we've had a really fine few days. We'll definitely be back!
