Boasting a desirable location near the ancient town of Winchelsea, this cute country cottage is perfect for couples and small families who want to get back to nature with long rambles in the countryside. The area is crossed by a network of footpaths and is part of the National Cycle Network, making it a top choice for keen walkers and cyclists.

Kick off your muddy boots in the large porch before stepping into the cosy lounge, complete with striking wall art and plants. Settle back to watch TV or flick through a magazine in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire. The traditional farmhouse kitchen is a fantastic space to enjoy home-cooked meals around the wooden table in front of the original Aga (available September-April). There's also a separate utility room that doubles as a sunroom where you can read or enjoy a coffee overlooking the pretty courtyard garden. On balmy summer evenings, set the table outside for a sizzling BBQ in the sunshine. And every morning, wake up to lovely countryside views from the upstairs bedrooms.

Winchelsea Beach is just over a mile from the cottage, and a wonderful place to escape the hubbub of city life. Enjoy long bracing walks along the pebbled seafront before grabbing a bite to eat in the cafe. Head to the medieval town of Rye (3 miles) to find charming independent shops, antiques and restaurants offering freshly caught seafood. Other options for fantastic days out in East Sussex include Bodiam Castle (12.5 miles), Great Dixter House and Gardens (10.5 miles) and Hastings (10 miles) with its lovely old town and pier.

This is the second time we have rented this cottage, as on our previous visit the cottage is clean, comfortable, well equipped. It is in a great location. We enjoyed our stay and when we visit this area Eastwood Cottage would certainly be our preferred holiday rental

This is a lovely spot. Very convenient for Rye and the coast. Extremely comfortable and well equipped with extras thrown in e.g. milk/juice, mince pies etc. as it was Xmas. Also a lovely Xmas tree. I would recommend this spot any time of the year. It has a nice patio in the back which would be lovely for barbeques. This was our second visit. The cottage was clean, comfortable with everything provided that you might need. A real home from home. Winchelsea and Rye are a short distance away. Great house in brilliant location - lots of 'little extra's' like books and dvd's. Excellent welcome tray from owner with lots of extra treats. A little traffic noise from the adjacent main road but nothing that you can't live with - location super quiet so road noise probably more noticable. Sheep, herons, rabbits all visible in neighbouring fieldRead mores. Brilliant holiday location with lots interesting places to visit close by - some within walking distance. Hide

A lovely, quirky colourful cottage in the countryside, with sheep baaing outside and an arbour entrance that feels like you're entering a secret garden - yet it is on a main road. All very lovely, clean and very well stocked. Wonderful, generous treats on arrival - homemade scones, cream and jam in the fridge, and everything you could need for yourRead more stay. Very close to Rye, Camber, Battle etc. Friendly, helpful landlady, who was there when needed, yet entirely unobtrusive. Highly recommended! Hide

We had a fantastic time whilst staying at Eastwoods cottage. Astrid has thought of everything you might need and provided it. The "survival" pack was great. Scones with jam and cream for tea and then something for breakfast next morning. The cottage is tastfully decorated with well established gardens. Beautiful cottage with all necessities and super clean. Rye is ideally accessible by bicycle via a car-free path through the meadows of kilometers or 5. Small disadvantage is the busy road in front. If you sleep with an open window, you will be inconvenienced by this.

This is a wonderful, comfortable cottage, in a great location. The house and garden is so well looked after. It's full of thoughtful touches, such as buckets and spades for the children and really well equipped. There is a busy road nearby but you can hardly hear it above the sound of sheep and birds. Loved it.
