Ideally suited to large or extended families, or a group of friends, this beautiful mid-terrace cottage puts its guests in the heart of the seaside town of Whitstable. Renowned for its seafood – especially its oysters – Whitstable is a foodie's paradise, with plenty of restaurants and gastropubs to choose from. Thanks to the property's central location, these are all within easy reach, as are the artists' galleries and workshops, and independent stores that give the town its unique cosmopolitan vibe.

Spread over three floors, the ground level accommodation consists of a snug, living room and dining room – all crisply designed – with a step up into a stylish galley kitchen. Doors from the dining room lead out onto a sunny decked terrace where guests will find garden furniture and a BBQ. This area leads on to a long narrow garden, and a second terrace area that provides a lovely tranquil retreat. Upstairs, the property's three bedrooms comprise of a super king-size room – which can be set up as a twin room – and a double room on the first floor, with a twin room under the sloping ceilings of the second floor (with some reduced head-height).

With its beach, thriving High Street, fishing harbour and castle, Whitstable has something for all ages, and this property puts its guests within half a mile of it all. For those who prefer a longer walk, the Saxon Shore Way runs through the town, heading west through Seasalter to the Kent marshes, and east to Herne Bay and the Roman fort at Reculver. Further east, the golden sands and contemporary art gallery at Margate are just 19 miles away, while journeying 7 miles south reaches the historic cathedral city of Canterbury and the chance to follow in the footsteps of Chaucer's pilgrims.

  • 3 bedrooms: 1 king-size (can be made up as a twin), 1 double and 1 twin, plus additional single day bed on the ground floor
  • 2 Bathrooms - 1 with bath, separate shower and WC and 1 with shower and WC
  • Electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, and washer/dryer
  • High chair and travel cot available
  • Wood burner in the main lounge
  • Smart TV with Netflix, DVD player, CD player and Sonos system
  • Enclosed garden with table, chairs, bench and charcoal BBQ
  • Public car parks and roadside parking available locally
  • Shops, pubs and beach within walking distance
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

At one point during our week we were a full house, including four legged friend, and there was ample space for us to spread out or socialise together over a meal or board game. Good array of pots, pans, etc in the kitchen.

A cleverly designed cuddle of a cottage. Good location for all that whitstable has to offer. We all felt really comfortable here. Jenna, our contact, was really helpful without being intrusive. Would definitely stay again.

We loved our stay at Shanty Shanty. Comfy and warm with everything we needed. The furnishings were good quality and I loved all the art works on the walls and the gorgeous garden too. We love Whitstable and will definitely book this place again.

Lovely cottage ideally located for Whitstable harbour and shops. Great base for exploring nearby places. Dover Castle is well worth a visit. The cottage has everything you need especially in the kitchen. Plenty of space for a family. We are a family of four. We had a comfortable stay so peaceful and the garden is amazing.

Great location, and a Tardis inside. Easily could accommodate 3 couples and having 2 bathrooms is a real bonus. The garden is also beautiful, secluded and well planted, and a lovely place for a coffee in the sunshine.
