Property code: EHC45

200-year old traditional fishermen’s cottage located just 200 yards from the seafront in the Meads Village area of Eastbourne, within walking distance of South Downs National Park.

You can't get much more romantic than a 200-year-old fisherman's cottage made for two, just yards from the sea. Situated between the seaside town of Eastbourne with its sights and amusements, and the sweeping hills of the South Downs National Park, it's ideal for an active and relaxing retreat, and could make the perfect honeymoon destination (whether you just got married or not).

Enter through the pretty cottage garden into a gorgeously decorated sitting room. With a comfy sofa (which pulls out into a bed if you need extra room), TV, warming gas fire, and period features, it's a lovely place to relax in the evening. Next door is a sweet cottage kitchen, set up with all the equipment you need to make your own romantic meals for two during your stay. Cottage-style stairs lead up to a charming king-size room and neighbouring spacious bathroom, with both a bath and a shower. Light and crisp decor with dashes of colour throughout make this cottage feel airy and romantic, and — better yet — outside is an enclosed courtyard garden with a table for two set up for taking in the fresh sea air.

The Meads Village area of Eastbourne, where this fisherman's cottage is situated, offers the best of all worlds. Just 200 yards from the seafront in one direction, and the same distance to the beginning of the South Downs National Park in the other, this is the perfect destination for those who like to walk, hike or cycle. Or you can simply stroll the beach towards Eastbourne's beautiful Victorian pier, 1.5 miles along the shore, where you'll find amusements, shops and cafes.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 king-size bedroom, plus sofa bed
  • Bathroom with bath, handheld shower and power shower over, and WC

  • Wi-Fi included
  • Oven, hob, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, and washing machine

A nice property in a nice area of Eastbourne. Good local shops and the Ship Inn is very good value for food. A good base to explore the surrounding area.

Cosy cottage in a pleasant area, with the Downs close by, a good pub a few doors away, and a selection of shops nearby too. Being a Winter break, the house needed the heating on practically all the time, to compensate for a draught through the front door. However, it is an ideal cottage for a couple looking for a quiet break.

If this property had been thoroughly cleaned I would have recommended it, however, due to the fact it was so dirty I would not recommend this property.

Great location for the Downs and the beach. Good eating pub next door but you need to book. We stayed for a week in October when heat was needed and we spent many evenings in due to the weather and Covid restrictions.

We had a great time at the South Downs cottage, perfectly located for walking to Beachy Head and beyond, also just three doors down is the Pilot Inn which is a pub that serves really good food. A quieter end of Eastbourne but still only around a 20 minute walk along the front to the town centre where there are all the usual shops and restaurants

A charming little cottage which has been decorated and furnished very tastefully. The location is fantastic with the South Downs, seafront and town centre within walking distance. Local shops are just up the street. The Pilot and the Ship are great pubs too. I would definitely recommend South Downs Cottage.
