Property code: BT094

This stunning showman’s carriage is located within 200 acres of farmland, under the watchful eye of the imposing Bodiam Castle. You really could not be closer to this wonderful historic sight, with its moat and extensive grounds. Also located just a few moments from the cottage is one of the stations for the vintage steam trains which run along a ten-mile route from Bodiam to the small town of Tenterden, with its high street of interesting shops and its Old Dairy Brewery where you can take a tour and taste the ales.

Originally a showman’s carriage, built in 1894, you can really feel the atmosphere of this beautifully restored property, which has found its final resting place here. Inside the carriage is a cornucopia of original features including the mahogany woodwork, tiled fireplace and imitation woodburner. In the cosy  lounge, there is even a TV with DVD player and a CD player and gas heater, so there is no need to forego your creature comforts. To one end of the carriage is the cosy and romantic raised bed, which is slightly smaller than a regular double. The kitchen and bathroom are each located in two adjacent buildings which are right outside. The thatched kitchen/dining room has everything you will need including a sink, small cooker, small fridge and a small railway-style table, which has stunning views to the countryside beyond. The bathroom is a wet room with shower and is found on the opposite side of the decked area to the kitchen.

Outside the carriage is a raised decked-area which has an secluded enclosed veranda, from which to enjoy  views across to Bodiam Castle. This space provides a wonderful outdoor living space, with comfortable wicker chairs and table.

Lovely quirky place to stay. We have two medium size dogs and it was a squeeze so ideal for one or two small dogs. Nice walks and a pub within walking distance.

June 2023. Vintage showman's wagon 1864, very comfortable and very ornate. Fabulous scenery. Massive deck with huge hand made oak table and leather chairs. Separate shower room/toilet and kitchen. 9 days of eating, drinking, playing games and taking our two Norfolks for walks. We just let the world go by and loved it. John the owner very friendly. What a great place to stay! Views are amazing and plenty of walks for us and the dogs. Loved the blanket and chews for the dogs. Everything very clean and welcoming. Ideal for visiting Hastings, Battle and Bodiam, including the local pubs that do great food. Will definitely visit again.
