Set in the heart of the Kent countryside, but close to the coast this wonderful holiday cottage has been stylishly designed throughout to provide a fantastic getaway for families
A traditional thatched cottage in Ottinge near Folkestone, this chocolate-box family home is the perfect retreat for up to six guests. Affording three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it offers plenty of room to settle in, as well as the opportunity to branch out and explore the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Drop down a gear and cruise along in holiday mode; from long lie-ins to coastal strolls to town-hopping, there is ample here for all generations.
Part of its quirky charm, the property's jumble of open beams and exposed joists are complemented by soothing tones and cosy furnishings. After a day exploring, the open-plan living area has an inviting appeal, topped off with comfortable sofas and armchairs waiting to take the weight off your feet, as well as a wood burner-effect electric fire. For foodies, the well-equipped kitchen has everything you could need for food prep, while the extendable dining table lends a lovely sense of ceremony to mealtimes (great for those who have booked the neighbouring cottage as well). At night, seek repose in one of the property's bedrooms, each located on the first floor.
Home to an enclosed garden with outdoor seating, sunny afternoons will come easy here with an ice-topped drink in hand, but should you feel like exploring, there are abundant attractions nearby. Ready to lure you out of your self-catering retreat, a trip to Hythe beach (7 miles) will appease salty souls while inland, the Kent Downs AONB will call to walkers and cyclists. To stock up on goodies, you can find a village shop, pub and restaurants in Lyminge village (1 mile), while in Folkestone (7.5 miles) there is even more choice. For culture-vultures and shopaholics, trips to Canterbury (13 miles) and Dover (13 miles) are a must.
