Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in Dungeness

Dungeness is a tiny settlement on one of England’s largest shingle beaches, found in a quiet corner of Kent - the perfect destination for an unusual cottage holiday. Stark and artistic, the area is a haven for wildlife lovers, artists and photographers, all of whom appreciate it for its surreal beauty.

Fishermen’s huts, colourful renovated beach houses and railway carriages are a backdrop to the huge stretch of shingle leading down to the sea where fishing boats sit alongside discarded huts, boat wrecks and anchors. Dungeness' one main road leading down to the beach includes the famous artist Derek Jarman’s house, Prospect Cottage, and at the bottom sit the quaint steam trains of the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch railway, as well as cafes, a lighthouse and the renowned power stations.

Nature lovers from all across the world come to visit the Romney Marsh nature reserve, and the desert-style location and amazing light of the area make Dungeness the place to go for photo shoots. Only five minutes from Camber Sands and its amazing sandy beach, with the pretty Lydd-on-Sea in the other direction, you won’t be stuck for days out at the beach. If you prefer a bit of history and culture, you are also within driving distance of Hastings, Battle and Rye and surrounded by beautiful castles, gardens and houses to visit.

Take a look at our full range of Dungeness holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation, and start exploring this curious corner of Kent for yourself.
