Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in Pett Level

Pett Level is a small and peaceful seaside village in East Sussex, nestling on the coast between Rye and Hastings. Positioned alongside a sea defence wall, the beachside path offers elevated views of the sea, the beach and distant cliffs. Cliff End can be reached by foot and at low tide you can check out the amazing fossilised remains of a flooded forest, the result of the rise in sea levels at the end of the last ice age. It’s still possible to see the stumps of ancient trees if you know what to look for. Pett Village is a short way inland and has a few helpful amenities.

Pett Level marks the end of the Royal Military Canal which runs for 28 miles to Hythe, ideal for ramblers and dog walkers. For nature lovers, the nearby Pett Pools and large shallow lakes and reed beds are home to a great variety of wildfowl and water birds. It also lies within easy reach of historic Rye, Winchelsea and the golden sands of Camber Sands beach.

Nearby, Rye is a brilliant small town for exploring. It is well known for its antique shops and quaint architecture. Most of the town is on a hill looking across flats to the sea. It’s also the gateway to Dungeness, which is the largest shingle spit in the land and great for nature walks; here you can encounter a unique picturesque spot with its tumbledown fishing huts and old boats. It's well worth an afternoon visit for something a little off-kilter to the real world.
