Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in Burwash

Burwash is a small and picture-perfect village in East Sussex, located on the banks of the River Rother. Literature fans will be impressed to learn that Rudyard Kipling lived half of his life in the village. It is thought that he wrote most of his masterworks at his home, Bateman's, like Just So Stories, The Jungle Book, Kim, The Man Who Would Be King, and more. Bateman’s is now managed by the National Trust and is open to the public. A memorial to his son Jack, who was killed in combat in the First World War, can be seen in the centre of the village.

The central village is a designated conservation zone to preserve its character and restrict the addition of new buildings. English Heritage has awarded listed status on many of the houses and premises along the High Street.

The village is located on the River Rother. There is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest near Burwash by the Dallington Forest, an area of ancient woodland. Its interest lies in a steep-sided stream flowing through the site. Such habitats are extremely uncommon nationally.

Our Burwash cottages are close to some good local attractions like the steam railway at the Kent & Essex Sussex Line, Bodiam Castle, Diggerland, and the Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest too. Take a look at our full collection of self-catering accommodation and holiday homes above.
