Wittersham is situated a short distance from the Kent coast between Rye and Tenterden. Located high up on the Isle of Oxney, visitors enjoy fabulous views of the unspoiled countryside.
In earlier times, the Isle of Oxney was surrounded by water, and the village has a long history dating back as far as the first century AD and the Danes. Wittersham centres around a 13th century church – St John the Baptist. There’s also a popular gastropub called the Oxney Gourmet Pie & Burger Pub, which presents its clientele with a menu full of interesting twists on the traditional. Take a stroll out to Stocks Mil,l an 18th century post mill. It’s the tallest white-weatherboarded mill of its kind in the county. Tours are available on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer.
Travel to Rye for an interesting shopping experience, or Dungeness to see unusual seaside habitats and the gorgeous sand dunes at Camber Sands for holiday frolics.
