Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in Hailsham

Hailsham is a picturesque and historic market town overlooking Pevensey Levels in East Sussex. The town was first established in 1252 and at its centre is the market square and St Mary’s Church. The town has two modern shopping precincts, yet it has retained many of its old buildings, some dating back to the 16th century.

Hailsham is close to the coast with a direct road link down to Eastbourne. With its strong rural character, it still has room for a lovingly restored arthouse cinema, a leisure centre complete with swimming pool and bowling alley, a number of chain stores and some banks.

Be sure to visit Battle to see the site of the Battle of Hastings. The town is a wonderful blend of ancient history and is well worth a day out to learn all about the conflict. The remains of Battle Abbey are open for public inspection. It’s said that the altar was built on the spot where King Harold fell during the Battle of Hastings.

Camber Sands and Dungeness are also great days out for walkers, and like Pevensey Levels and Rye Harbour, they both offer wild walks and views to remember.

Hailsham makes a good base for those looking to explore the Weald, the wonderful Pevensey Levels and 1066 Country. Browse our complete range of Hailsham cottages, holiday homes and self-catering accommodation above.
