Holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation in the Isle of Thanet

The Isle of Thanet is no longer an island in the traditional sense; it was once surrounded by water in ancient times. Nowadays it has reconnected with the mainland. The most easterly point of Kent, the Isle of Thanet is home to three major seaside resorts: Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Between these three places, it’s possible to politely overdose on every aspect of a traditional trip to the British seaside. Everything from colourful deckchairs, old fashioned rollercoasters, piers, ice creams, sticks of rock and yellow sandy beaches await.

Lovers of the picture-postcard English holiday will love this part of the British coastline. It’s also full of nature reserves and the longest stretch of chalk cliffs in the UK and Europe. Nature reserves make up a large percentage of the Isle of Thanet, so it’s a great area to go bird watching. There are many lovely places along the Kent coast to hideaway and spy some lesser spotted feather fancy. The Isle of Thanet currently boasts seven Blue Flag awarded beaches and three Seaside Awards bays. Surfers should head out to Joss Bay, one of the best along the English Channel.

For a quieter waterside venture try out Minnis Bay, Stone Bay, Dumpton Gap, West Bay, or St Mildreds. Cyclists and trekkers rejoice, as the Viking Trail (32 miles) is a wonderful addition to the nation’s most pleasant long distance trails. Isle of Thanet events include the Margate Masters, which attracts Britain's best beach volleyball teams, and Margate’s Beach Motorcross, a hugely popular adrenaline-fuelled event.

For a good blend of nature reserves and seaside promenades the best of both worlds awaits on the Kentish coast. Find your perfect holiday by the sea amongst our collection of Isle of Thanet cottages, holiday homes and self-catering accommodation.
